Portrait of William Stukeley, attributed to Richard CollinsWelcome to the homepage of the Stukeley Memoirs Project (SMP), hosted by Spalding Gentlemen's Society and organised in partnership with the University of the 3rd Age (U3A).

The SMP has been established to transcribe, research, edit and publish an edition of William Stukeley's five-volume Memoirs of the Royal Society, written by Stukeley as a gift for the members of the SGS between 1749 and 1756. These slender notebooks offer a personal, first-hand account of the Royal Society in the 1740s and early 1750s. They are a window into the intellectual and cultural life of the 18th century. And they reflect a pivotal era in the history of science in Britain.

With your help the SGS will bring these remarkable volumes to life.
